Approximately 20 Tesla vehicles were vandalized at a dealership on Boucher Road in south Belfast over the weekend. The damage, discovered on Sunday, included broken wing mirrors, smashed windows, and bodywork dents. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is investigating and has appealed for witnesses or anyone with relevant information to come forward.
This incident aligns with a series of recent attacks on Tesla dealerships across Europe and the United States, following CEO Elon Musk's association with President Donald Trump and his role in the Department of Government Efficiency, which has led to significant public sector job cuts. In response, protests and acts of vandalism targeting Tesla properties have been reported in various locations.
Local political figures, such as Traditional Unionist Voice deputy leader Ron McDowell, have condemned the vandalism, stating that if the attacks are linked to Musk's political views, they are "even more reprehensible than mindless vandalism." He emphasized that freedom of speech is a universal right, and targeting businesses due to their leaders' political opinions undermines this principle.
The PSNI continues to investigate the Belfast incident and urges anyone with information to contact them.
